Being natural has been a real journey. I’ve had my setbacks and the main reason for said setbacks has been due to my struggle with the detangling process.

After using the products I have in my product arsenal (I’m not a product junkie and use as few products as possible) in different ways, I’ve finally found the combination that will not only help me moisturize and seal my hair, but has also been my detangling revelation.

Tools Of The Coil

How I Use These Tools To Detangle My Type 4 coils

I’ve always felt this particular leave in was a little too heavy for my fine strands when I apply to my hair when dry, and I’ve always applied too much if I use it when my hair was soaking wet after my weekly wash routine.

However, with a little thought and minimal mixing, I’ve found I can use my leave in conditioner daily without weighing my hair down.

Step One: First I took my spray bottle and removed the top.

Step Two: I then took my Shea Moisture Restorative Conditioner and squeezed a small amount into my spray bottle. I didn’t measure, I really just eyeballed it.

Step Three: I then filled the bottle with water, replaced the top and shook it to mix.

After doing this, I sectioned my hair and spritzed my strands with the water and leave in mixture, lightly finger detangled and then applied a small amount of unrefined coconut oil to my hair, focusing mostly on the ends of my hair.

After doing this, I twist my hair and wait for it to dry before untwisting and styling my hair for the day. Keep in mind that I’ve been using nothing but my fingers to detangle and style my hair. The only time I use a tool other than my fingers is on Fridays or Saturdays when I wash my hair.

This is when I use a shower comb to remove any shed hairs while in the shower.

When Do I Scalp Massage?

I love massaging my scalp and I make sure to do it daily to remove dead skin cells and just to relax. I love the way my scalp tingles after a scalp massage!

Before applying my leave in and coconut oil to the length of my hair, I apply a very small amount of coconut oil to just my scalp and then I use my Vitagoods shampoo brush to massage my scalp for at least 5 minutes.

Not only have the scalp massages helped me relax, I’ve also noticed that my roots are much stronger and feel healthier. Pair this with the moisture I get from my spray bottle ingredients and coconut oil and by George, I think I’ve found a simple, effective solution for my dry hair.

Am I Going To Be Doing Protein Treatments?

I want to look into using a harder protein treatment, something intense that I only have to use once every 6-8 weeks because I don’t like taking a lot of time to take care of my hair.

Although I will continue to use my Shea Moisture Bamboo and Maca Root Protein Masque in between the more intense protein treatments, I would like to be able to just focus on moisture rather than worrying about not having the right balance of moisture and protein on a regular basis.
